Cotton Eyed Joe’s: Specializing in Big Time Results for Small Budgets
Cotton Eyed Joe's | Gainesville, Georgia
Meet Jody Spain: High school instructor and assistant basketball coach turned sign shop owner. In 1998, the high school where he worked was building a new basketball gym. “I helped with the design of the flooring and it really got me thinking,” said Jody.
Jody began designing the school’s team logos and uniforms. In 1998, Jody, his brother Joey, and their father David opened Cotton Eyed Joe’s in Gainesville, Georgia. Soon, they invested in a Roland SOLJET large format printer/cutter.
“The SOLJET hasn’t stopped printing a day since we bought it,” said Jody. “Our hashtag is ‘yeah, we do that.’”
“We did our homework and everyone we spoke with told us to get the Roland SOLJET,” he said. “We love the print/cut feature – it saves space and time for us.” Cotton Eyed Joe’s offers decals, banners, floor graphics, directional signage, wall and window wraps, and vehicle graphics. Their shop has grown to a staff of nine in 12,000 square feet.
Cotton Eyed Joe’s specializes in high school sport venue rebranding. Jody particularly enjoys designing and installing floor and wall graphics for high school tournaments. “We can take a local tourney and make it look like the Final Four,” he said.
In addition to schools and community organizations, Cotton Eyed Joe’s serves doctors’ offices, local retail outlets and restaurants. “We are your small project company – but there’s no reason your small project can’t look big time,” said Jody.
Cotton Eyed Joe’s enjoys the precision color results they get using Roland’s VersaWorks RIP software. “Especially with schools and our corporate clients, it has to be their colors. VersaWorks is so good, we’ve tried to miss the color and can’t!” he laughs.
